The Secret To Long-Term Success: Akon Has All Of The Answers To All Of Your Questions.

You’ve got to change with the scene or get lost in it. Hip-hop and R&B sound vastly different today than what it did 15, 10 and even five years ago. It’s not that it isn’t R&B anymore, but as new generations of artists emerge, they carry different influences that will surely be reflected in the music.

This is why you see artists dominate the charts for a few years and then fade – where they once made waves, they now make ripples, still noticed, but that’s about it.

Akon may make more headlines for his charity work than his music, but that doesn’t mean the music veteran doesn’t know the ins and outs of the business. Akon’s hung out at #1 on the charts in multiple genres, and he’s trying to give up-and-coming artist a chance to do the same on his newly revived Konvict Kartel label. It’s easy to find fame today, but not easy to keep it.

“With today’s technology you can make a song in an hour. You can make a music video in two to three hours. You can become a superstar, but you need a team around you that is going to help you make that long-term success,” Akon told Vibe.

Not only is Akon using his proven acumen to develop the next round of stars, but he’s also looking to bring international artists to the forefront, too.

“This is a movement and I just want to be in position to offer that platform to artists who understand who they are and where they want to be in the next 10 years. That’s what we want. We’re trying to build careers here.”
