Why I should not confess to a priest to receive forgiveness for my sins.

Catholics hold this scripture as a basis for confession of one's sin to an earthly priest: "Whosoever sins you remit, they are remitted to them; and whosoever sins you retain, they are retained" (John 20:23).
.
No doubt that Jesus gave this injunction to His disciples after He has breathed upon them to receive the Holy Ghost (note, it was to the disciples), you can also become His disciples if you continue in His word (John 8:31).
.
For the law makes men high priest which have infirmity (weaknesses) but the word of the oath, which was since the law, makes the Son, who is consecrated for evermore (Heb. 7:28).
.
All catholic priest needs to daily offer sacrifice, first for their own sins and then for the people but He did once when He offered up Himself (Heb. 7:27, emphasis mine). Jesus invested this power on the disciples when He was yet ascended to heaven. It was in Acts 1:9 that He ascended into the heavens.
.
After His ascent, He said all power has been given to Him in heaven and in earth (Matt. 28:17) but a Catholic priest has no power to forgive sins in heaven or on earth because there's no other name in which a person can be saved other than in the name of Jesus (Acts 4:12).
.
And note, without shedding of blood, there’s no remission of sin (Heb. 9:22). Has a Catholic priest shed his own blood for the forgiveness of the sins of the laity?
.
Mind you, Jesus Christ is the propitiation for ours sins and He's the only advocate with the Father to plead on behalf of our sin (1 John 2:1-2). The sacrifices of an earthly priest cannot cleanse anybody's sin except the blood of Jesus Christ (1 John 1:7).
.
Now if they claim to be able to forgive sins, do they have power to cleanse men from their unrighteousness?
.
God has invested much power and right on His son to be able to forgive sins and cleanse men once and for all (Heb. 9:14-15) if they confess it to Him.
.
See, it is not possible for the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sin (Heb. 10:4) or confession to an earthly priest. The natural has no power above the supernatural, hence, no mortal being has the power to forgive the sins of another mortal. Christ had offered one sacrifice for sins forever (vs. 12) with His own blood.
.
All you need to have your sins forgiven is to confess it to the Lord Jesus (1 John 1:9), forsake them (Prov. 28:13) and believe in your heart that you have been forgiven (Rom. 10:10).
.
If catholic priest had been ordained to forgive sins or Christ has invested that power totally on His disciples, then why did He die on the Cross? Why is He seated at the right hand of God to make intercession for us?
.
We need a high priest that is holy, harmless, undefiled, separated from sinners and made higher than the heavens and doesn't need to daily offer sacrifice for his own sin (Heb. 7:26). Unfortunately, no catholic priest meets these requirements.
.
I hope this would minister grace to a soul.
