Music Enlightenment Project: What they have to offer.

The Junior School Program (3-5pm).

This is the program that forms the foundation of our practice as educators. We offer general music classes (GM) taught by people who have had training in the Orff Schulwerk Approach- a way of teaching music to children that encompasses  singing, movement, improvisation and playing of instruments that allow an individuals to express their creative identity, while learning the fundamentals of music.

This is a compulsory class in our junior school program as it ensures that all children are musically developed before learning an orchestral instrument. Recorder and orchestral instrument group classes are offered alongside the GM program to allow children to apply their musical skills in an ensemble environment while learning the techniques of playing an instrument and reading music.

The classes, at a cost of R200 a month per child, are:

GM for 6-8 year olds.

GM for 9-11 year olds.

GM for 12-13 year olds.

The High-school and University Program (5-8pm)

This program is to develop the musical skills of teenagers and young adults in a group class setting while learning the fundamentals of music through GM and a musical instrument of their choice.

The cost is R250 a month per student.

The Adult Program.

In this program we offer adults, who would like to learn an instrument, the opportunity to have 4 one-on-one lessons a month, at a time that is suitable to both the student and teacher, as well as the opportunity to participate in community music making-an important activity for musical development.

The cost is R500 a month per student.
