'THE TRAGEDY OF BEING RICH'

"But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition" - 1 Timothy 6:9
.
It is not a crime to be rich but it's a great tragedy to be rich and end up in hell. The price that comes with being rich is a great one. Never aspire to become rich in life but seek His kingdom and righteousness and let Him add other things unto you (Matt. 6:33).
.
The writer of Proverbs 30:8-9 in his wisdom prayed thus: remove far from me vanities and lies, give me neither poverty nor riches: feed me with food convenient for me: lest I be full and deny you and say, who is the Lord? Or lest I be poor and steal and take the name of my God in vain. How many of us can sincerely say this prayer?
.
In Jesus' discussion with the rich young ruler, He concluded that a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 19:23) because their heart is on their possession and not on God.
Apostle Paul expressed the tragedy of being rich further. They will fall into temptation, a snare, many foolish and hurtful lust (1 Tim. 6:9). The richer a man is, the greater his temptation becomes. He will be tempted with ego, power, women, covetousness and the likes.
.
So therefore, don't pursue riches, let God make you want He wants before He gives you things (riches). It is more beneficial to be rich towards God than to be rich in substance (Luke 12:20-21).
.
Brethren, several trapping opportunities will be opened to a rich man that would make him have no time for God. He will be exposed to many foolish and hurtful lust (ambitions) like the rich fool (Luke 12:16-19).
.
However, be godly and contented. Seek His kingdom and righteousness and let Him add other things to you as due. Let God make you before He gives you. Above all, learn contentment and be rich towards God.
